On Friday night I took some of the fabric that I had Marbleized during my Lectshop and did some stamping on it. I used $1 stamps from Jo-ann that said things likes surfs up and beach bum. I used the Paint sticks for drawing on t-shirts(Tee Juice made by Jacquard) to paint on the surfaces of the stamps. I was doing kind of a Hawaiian theme with pineapples, palm leaves and hibiscus flowers. I am now putting together Pineapple blocks, which I thought was an appropriate use of Hawaiian themed material. But as I discovered my theme was interesting, but my color choices were not giving me the effect I wanted. Plus I should have paper pieced them it would have been easier. But live and learn, who knows where this will go!

`A spurt of creativity!
Tuesday, June 1st, 2010The first “Lectshop” was a Success!
Saturday, May 22nd, 2010Our quilt show is over and was a great success! Our last guild meeting(till September) was last night and I did my First “Lectshop” for a captive audience! It was awesome! I think that small guilds and guilds with limited funds will enjoy this format!
Just to recap what a “Lectshop” is: I give a 10-20 minute lecture on a subject related to the techniques I plan to do in the mini workshop. Then I begin my demonstration which last from 5-20 minutes. After that I invite the members to come up close and observe or participate!
I am willing to do this for small guilds, large guilds, quilt shows and quilting bees. For smaller guilds and quilting bees I will work on a per person basis along with a mileage fee for those groups that are within 1 to 2 hrs of my own home. For those who are farther away I am willing to stay in a quilt members house (especially if they are dog people) overnight after the meeting before heading back to New Hampshire.
Also any program person who is reading this, I am willing to be shared by more than one guild in the same week. Again all I need is a clean bed and a meal or 2.
Now time for some cleaning and cooking as my quilting bee is coming over tomorrow evening!
PS: Pictures of the fabric we made during the workshop will be posted soon!

Want to Celebrate Earth Day-Here are some suggestions
Tuesday, April 20th, 2010Polke Bolton the editorial director for the Quilting Daily has a great Blog on the top 10 ways to create a greener art quit.
Great Suggestions! I better start saving all my dryer sheets
So what did you do for Earth Day? I went to the grocery store and tried not to buy anything that was overly processed or packaged and brought my own plastic bags for produce or used no plastic bags at all. It’s amazing how much waste there is. But we aren’t use to buying raw items in bulk anymore and most people don’t know what to do with them or maybe that is my cynical opinion. Let me know what you think! Do you cook or bake from scratch? Do you go to farmers markets or local farms regularly?
Introducing the Guild One Stop “Lectshop”!
Wednesday, April 7th, 2010In this economy it is hard for guilds to get members to commit to workshops but those same members want local and famous quilters to come Lecture at their guild meetings. Well I think I have a solution to this dilemma. I call it the Lectshop, this is a mini lecture with a hands on demonstration where members can participate and those members who would prefer to watch can come up close and see how things are done.
The lecture part would be 20-30 minutes and could include a small trunk show. The mini workshop would be 45 minutes -1 hour. The total cost for the Lectshop will vary with the type of mini workshop requested. The cost to the members who want to participate will be less than $10 for nitrile gloves , cloth apron and directions. The protection/directions kit will be available to the members before I start the demonstration and they can pay me directly(cash). The members can also bring their own protection(but will still need to pay for the directions $2).
The Lectshop is ideal for small guilds ,quilt shows without loads of money or an interest in expensive workshops. If you know of any guild, quilt show,church,4-H group or youth organization who would be interested in the Lectshop please give them the link to this page!
