Introducing the Guild One Stop “Lectshop”!

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

In this economy it is hard for guilds to get members to commit to workshops but those same members want local and famous quilters to come Lecture  at their guild meetings. Well I think I have a solution to this dilemma. I call it the Lectshop, this is a mini lecture with a hands on demonstration where members can participate and those members who would prefer to watch can come up close and see how things are done.

The lecture part would be 20-30 minutes and could include a small trunk show. The mini workshop would be 45 minutes -1 hour. The total cost for the Lectshop will vary with the type of mini workshop requested. The cost to the members who want to participate will be less than $10 for nitrile gloves , cloth apron and directions. The protection/directions kit will be available to the members before I start the demonstration and they can pay me directly(cash). The members can also bring their own protection(but will still need to pay for the directions $2).

The Lectshop is ideal for small guilds ,quilt shows  without  loads of money or an interest in  expensive workshops. If you know of any guild, quilt show,church,4-H group or youth organization who would be interested in the Lectshop please give them the link to this page!

My other life

Monday, February 1st, 2010

When I am not  working on the farm or trying to create art quilts or Wearables, I am at the gym, teaching Gymnastics. I have been teaching and coaching gymnastics for almost 30 years. I work with the gymnasts who are competing in the Prep Opt. Division. This division is a place where gymnasts can do the skills they do best in their routines. This divisions rules are not as strict  and   allow for more diversity in the type of gymnasts who compete.

I never have a camera when I need one…

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

I was driving down Interstate 93 to Manchester , NH the other day.The clouds were just so incredible with the fall foliage colors offering such an intense contrast to the sky. The clouds were grey white and looked like a group of quilters had been quilting them into long puffy uneven rows. I was inspired, but no camera to help freeze the moment in time.

Maybe next time, Happy Halloween!

Artist Statement

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

Some Artists know right from the beginning what they want to do.

Some artists dip their brush in many pots, trying to find just the right color that makes a statement about who they are.

I fall into the latter category as far as my art is concerned. The artistic side of me has tried many different disciplines in the fine and performing arts.

But fabric has captured my attention and it is my muse that fuels my creativity. The passion I have for fabric is expressed through my distinct use of color and the way I manipulate the fabrics giving them a new shape and look.

I relish the texture and the weight that is created by stitching the three layers together and the process provides me with a great feeling of satisfaction.
