Early works/Breast Cancer and Charity Quilts
Some of the quilts in this album were the first ones I made after my first formal quilt class in 1990. It helped that I had a number of relatives having babies, as most of my quilts were baby size. These early quilts and my early charity quilts for the Sunshine Guild were made between 1990 and 2000.
The Breast Cancer quilts/Wearable Art were made in honor of my friend Meredith Strang Burgess.Meredith and I became friends after being counselors at a camp in Maine where we had both gone as campers in the late 1960's. Meredith who herself is a breast cancer survivor is a tireless advocate for finding a cure for the disease and helped to start the Breast Cancer Lunch/Dinner for Maine. The quilts and wearable art are donated to The Breast Cancer Luncheon raises money for the Maine Cancer Foundation.
Other charity quilts have been given to the Heat Fund auction (money raised went to heat orphanages overseas), Wrap a smile(quilts given to children after cleft palette surgery) and local children's homes, nursing and veteran's homes.
